검은 어머니의 갈비뼈를 딛고 나오려, 난 전사가 돼야 했지

 

*성경에서 이브가 아담의 갈비뼈로 만들어졌다는 이야기를 뒤집은 표현. '검은 여성(Black Woman)'을 인류의 기원이자 생명의 원천으로 보았으며, 그 태안에서 험난한 세상으로 나오는 과정 자체를 '전사(Warrior)'의 투쟁으로 묘사했다.

*우리가 누리는 현재의 삶은 거저 얻어진 것이 아니라, 과거 차별에 맞서 싸우다 희생된 조상들이 목숨 바쳐 얻어낸 '보상'이라는 의미. 따라서 우리가 살아남은 건 우연이 아닌 그들의 희생에 따른 필연이라는 것.
