본명 Marlon Lu'Ree Williams

출생 1962년 Queens, New York

​

1980~90년대 힙합의 사운드를 형성하는 데

핵심적인 역할을 한 전설적인 프로듀서/DJ입니다.

샘플링과 드럼머신을 활용한 비트 메이킹의 선구자입니다.

형님의 대표곡 중 하나인 LL Cool J 의

Mama Said Knock You Out 뮤비입니다.

 

말리말 이전의 힙합 샘플링이 루프를 통으로

가져와서 돌리는 경우가 많았다면,

말리말은 킥, 스네어, 하이햇 샘플을 하나하나 샘플링해서

조합하여 비트를 만드는 방식을 확립했다는 점에서

샘플 기반 붐뱁 비트 메이킹에 있어 큰 의미가 있겠습니다.

Cold Chillin’ Records 의 핵심 프로듀서로 활약하며

수많은 클래식들을 만들어냈습니다.

Cold Chillin' 은 80년대 중반~90년대 초반까지

힙합의 황금기를 화려하게 수놓았던 레이블로

Biz Markie, MC Shan, Big Daddy Kane,

Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, Roxanne Shante,

Masta Ace, Grand Daddy IU, Genius(GZA) 등

이름만 들어도 존경심이 올라오는

멋진 형님들이 소속되어있었습니다.

줄기까지를 책임지셨던 형님이며,

대부분의 전설적 붐뱁 프로듀서들이

이 형님에게서 영감을 받고 배웠다고 말합니다.
