This is a play on Complex Magazine, the New York-based multi-media platform. In 2016, Kanye West was scheduled to headline ComplexCon, their music festival and cultural exhibition. However, on September 21, 2016, Complex announced via Twitter that he was removed from the bill for undisclosed reasons.
In 2017, however, he made a surprise appearance during frequent collaborator Kid Cudi’s ComplexCon set.
Pusha T spoke on the lyric in a May 2018 interview with Pigeons and Planes:
I see that line as people misunderstanding him. It’s him asking a question—am I too complex for ComplexCon? I feel like he feels he was and has been part of that culture, and I think he feels a little misunderstood. So questions like that would arise, and I think it was dope that it came up in a verse.
