Tapestry 11 : Tapestry

My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue

내 삶은 진하고 장엄한 색조의 양탄자 같았지

An everlasting vision of the ever changing view

끊임없이 변하는 장면의 변치 않는 시각이여

A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold

푸른색과 황금빛으로 신비하게 수놓여진 마법이여

A tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold

느낄 수 있고 볼 수 있었지만, 붙잡을 수 없는 양탄자여

Once amid the soft silver sadness in the sky

하늘에 연은빛 슬픔으로 둘러싸인 어느날 

There came a man of fortune, a drifter passing by

지나가던 한 떠돌이 부자가 찾아왔지

He wore a torn and tattered cloth around his leather hide

그는 가죽 옷 위에 찢어지고 너덜해진 옷을 입었고

And a coat of many colors, yellow-green on either side

양쪽이 황록빛으로 빛나는 여러 색깔의 코트를 입었어

He moved with some uncertainty, as if he didn't know

그는 자기도 모른다는 듯이, 약간 불명히 움직였지

Just what he was there for, or where he ought to go

그저 자기가 왜 왔는지, 혹은 어디로 가야 하는지

Once he reached for something golden hanging from a tree

한 번은 그는 나무에 걸린 황금 빛의 물체에 손을 뻗었고

And his hand came down empty

그는 빈손으로 내려올 뿐이었지

Soon within my tapestry along the rutted road

곧 내 양탄자의 바퀴 자국이 난 길을 따라

He sat down on a river rock and turned into a toad

그는 강가의 바위에 앉았고 두꺼비로 변해버렸어

It seemed that he had fallen into someone's wicked spell

아마 그는 누군가의 사악한 저주에 걸린 것 같아

And I wept to see him suffer, though I didn't know him well

난 그를 모르지만, 괴로워하는 그를 보며 눈물을 흘렸지

As I watched in sorrow, there suddenly appeared

슬픔에 잠긴 채 바라보니, 갑자기 나타났어

A figure gray and ghostly beneath a flowing beard

턱수염이 흩날리는 회색빛의 유령같은 형상을..

In times of deepest darkness, I've seen him dressed in black

깊고 깊었던 어두운 시간 속에, 난 검은 옷의 그를 보았지 

Now my tapestry's unraveling, he's come to take me back

이제 내 양탄자는 풀렸고, 그는 날 데리러 왔어
